The House That Perfect Built

Normally I'm not a picture-tearer-outer, but this house was the exception to the rule. I saw it in Elle Decor a couple years back, tore the pages out, and squirreled it away for future reference. You know, for the day I win the Lotto, buy and renovate the perfect mid-century pad and fill it with gorgeous, spot-on pieces of furniture. I don't know what it is about this place, but I fell for it, and I fell hard. There's something about the light and movement of the space coupled with light wood, concrete floors and white paint that gets my heart going. I mean, that living room...are you kidding me? Maybe it's because it reminds me of my Grandparents' home or maybe because the walls are closing in on us in the condo, but this house had me at hello. And I'm thinking of asking it to go steady.

Talk about breathing room. Holy beautiful windows! Also loving how the texture of the ceiling is carried out to the deck, too. Oh and that taaaaable with a single light fixture. Perfection! (Singing!)

Desert Storm

When I was a kid, we’d spend hours splashing in puddles and watching the clouds roll in like waves. It’s never just gray here, but instead continuously reflects the landscape like a seasoned shape shifter. Streaming light breaks through every now and then to dance on the pavement, and occasionally, snow will fall lightly on the mountains behind us. The hubs and I went for a drive with the baby this weekend and while he dozed to the pitter-patter of raindrops, I opened my window to the smell of sage and the magic of my childhood. People ask me why despite living overseas and having opportunities to move to the “big cities,” I always find myself back here. The truth is I’d miss the breathing room, and the inspiration it cultivates. There’s something about the desert that lives in my soul, and after long hours and sleepless nights, it’s the inaudible sigh I need to remind me what really matters. What about you? Where do you feel inspired?

The top photo is my mom in Switzerland and the bottom is her in New York last week. The catch? They were taken TWENTY-FIVE years apart. Uh, what dude? I'm pretty positive I look ten years older today than I did on Friday sooooo, yeaaaaa. Happy Monday everyone! Stupid aging.

Get Your Grub On

What's that? You'd like to see some pics from my exciting weekend?* Oh, well what a coincidence, I happen to have some right here. Check it - Windsor and Churn - part old-school ice cream shop, part perfect day-drinking destination. $5 Bloody Mary bar, pitchers of beer and Pimms, and some of the best mac and cheese this side of the Mississippi. A bold statement, considering how much I love me some mac and cheese (see disclaimer below). Add to this a 75 degree sunny day and life is good. Oh, and the decor? Yeah, that's pretty rad, too. Why yes, that is an entire wall made of OLD CASSETTE TAPES. What? Yeah. That just happened.

*Exciting weekends these days consist of meals I get to eat not standing up in my kitchen. Also not from a box. Not that there's anything wrong with meals from a box. Especially if they come fully loaded with powdered cheese. Mmmm, fake cheese.
