Tin Can Phony

I’m obsessed with these vases that resemble tin cans. I know, I know, I’m sure they’re pricey and I could probably fake the look, but seriously? I find it hard to believe I could feel the same way about actual tin cans. Even though I’m sure nobody would ever be able to tell the difference and I would face ridicule upon revealing how much I paid for the real deal. It’s kind of how I feel about handbags, Pinot Noir and Michael Jackson impersonators. While I love a good imitation, sometimes you just can’t fake the funk.

I'd Like to Bed You

Do people still say that? Did they ever? It seems very prude and yet creepy all at once. Whatevs, I'm obsessed with these bedrooms and I'm not afraid to show it. The paint colors, fireplaces, textures and that dressing area? Jaw, on the floor, drool, everywhere.

Love in Lock-Up

Have you ever seen that movie with Natalie Portman where she lives inside Walmart for a few weeks? Oh how about the one with Jennifer Connelly, circa HUGE brows, when she gets locked in a store overnight? I would give my left arm to do that in Target. Seriously, the whole arm. Can you imagine the fun?? I’d try on all the $20+ makeup that’s recently debuted, wrap myself in 12 Thomas O’Brien towels, sit in all the chairs, and unfurl all the Dwell bedding before calling it a night. Ahhaaahhhh - insert light shining down on my face from the Heavens here. Even if I never get to do this (and believe me, you never know), I think I could glean the same kind of pleasure from actually just purchasing new Dwell bedding. I have a Dwell Studio duvet cover/shams already, but the thought of paying so much less for a sweet print like this one makes me verrrrry happy. Not locked-inside-the-store happy, but happy nonetheless.

Paper Worth Rolling With

I think it’s a right of passage to hang a paper lantern in your house at some point. Dorm, apartment, cave, tent, whatever. Sadly, and even though I’ve always had a soft spot for the fixtures, I never participated in this act. Come to think of it, maybe this is why I remain so fiercely dedicated to MTV despite being in my, ahem, thirties. (Come on, the LC/Kristin feud? Epic!) Well, lucky for me and my maturity, I saw the photo of these Herman Miller Bubble Lamps recently.

They look like the real thing but not in a “cheap-dim-sum-meets-dingy-studio-with-futon” kind of way. I think they're super stylish clustered together, and I'd love to hang them all in my bedroom. Maybe not in my current bedroom, but in a huge loft with high ceilings and great windows? Perfection. You know, like the one in my dreams that I share with my husband, best friend Whitney and shirtless cook, The Situation.

Artistic Endeavors

I don’t care how overtly girly this sideboard is, I’d make it mine in a hot minute. And I think I could justify the piece with my husband by calling it “art.” You know, like I do every day at work with my jeans, flip-flops, and inappropriate use of sarcasm.

The Call of the Wild

I feel like I could get away with a pad like this if I were a super spy, or maybe a superhero, or possibly even a high-priced call girl. You know, white, simplistic and chapstick-wearing by day, colorful, patterned and red-lipstick-rocking by night. Hey, don't judge - a girl's gotta make a living. And with a lair like this, apparently it's a good one. Word.

Suicide by Ceiling Fan

Lights on ceiling fans make me want to die. Seriously, they’re like the bane of my existence. I know they’re functional, but come on people. Oh and by the way, I happen to have one in my bedroom…mostly because I’d rather spend money on more glamorous things right now than well, fans, but trust me, the horror of it all keeps me up at night. Annnnnyway, while floor lamps don’t creep me out nearly as much, they’re a close second. Until, that is, I saw this beauty from Pieces. I’ve fallen for it hard. You see? This is why the ceiling fan continuously haunts my dreams. Stupid ceiling fan.

P.S. I realize that ceiling fans themselves are pretty heinous, but with summers that see 115 degrees, it could be hot pink and glittery and I’d still keep it. Hmmm, maybe not pink.

P.P.S. I think I'd move to Atlanta if for no other reason than to shop at Pieces. And yes, the ceiling fan would come with me.

Got a Light?

Though yesterday's post allowed me to explore my dark side a tad, it also further demonstrated my allegiance to the light. Natural light, that is. Now my sense of humor on the other hand? Well that's a different story.

Weekly Whiteout

(image from Julia)

There's something really captivating about this bedroom. The pale colors of course, but also the lines of the bed, and the simplicity of the interior. I feel like I'd sleep forever there. Mmmm, sleep.

Who’s Ready for a Little Nookie?

I am, I am! Whether it be in the kitchen, under the stairs, or in the bedroom, there really is nothing better than a little nook. (What’d you think I meant?) I love how when done right, built-ins like this can transform a space into a quaint yet chic hideaway. I’m also dying for this chair. The lines are reminiscent of those old-school papason chairs, but the supple leather and stylish details thankfully keep it from being, well, a papasan chair. Because let’s be real, the only time that chair was acceptable was in our college boyfriend’s dorm…right next to the futon.

Perfect Placement

I'm loving the mix-n-match photography in the room above. Even though I'm usually a fan of pretty monochromatic color schemes in bedrooms, all the colors, shapes, textures and patterns in this one are really working for me.

In the Mood for Mod

I can't explain it, but my love of mid-century modern furniture runs VERY deep. My parents' house is filled with the most amazing "Palm Springs" pieces that always seem right at home in their space. It's a look that's harder to pull of in my condo, so I've taken to mixing styles in order to be true to the original structure and my mid-century love. If my husband could stomach pink, you'd better believe we'd be rockin' those sheets by Rubie Green, and thanks to the living room image from Oh So Beautiful Paper, I'm thinking of redecorating my living room. Joy!

City of Lights

Maybe I'm mourning the end of summer travel, or maybe I'm just craving a crusty baguette and fromage (two beloved items I've recently given up. Sigh), but I'm feeling very French today. And truly, how fabulous is this mirrored dresser??

Bedtime Stories

We're constantly putting mood boards together in the advertising world to help inspire our next great idea. I figured, why not do the same thing for decor? Kathryn at Snippet and Ink creates gorgeous boards for weddings, and I looked to them often while planning my own. Hopefully I'll be able to inspire others in the world of interior design! For my first, I thought it only fitting to choose items and looks I'd love to utilize in my own home. Not to mention that I'm a sucker for a comfy bed, and this definitely fits the bill.
